How to get your first horse
The Traveler’s Horse is a horse you can temporarily rent from certain Stable Keepers for free. The horse already has some skills and any player can use the Traveler’s Horse, so it is great to use for new players who don’t have a permanent horse yet.
Your first permanent horse can be obtained in 2 different ways:
- You can tame a horse using our Horse Taming Guide
- Purchase a horse from the Horse Market – refer to the Horse Market section below for more details.
- If you choose to purchase a horse, look for a Tier 7 or 8 horse that has the skills: Drift, and Instant Accel. Any additional skills are a bonus, but not required to have a fast horse.
After registering your first horse, you can call or locate the horse by clicking the horse icon under your character level.
Stable Keeper Locations
You can use the “Find NPC” function to locate the nearest Stable Keeper. Press the magnifying glass icon next to your mini-map, or go to the ESC menu > Function > Find NPC.
How to increase Stable Space
By default, you can have up to 3 mounts or wagons in your stable, if you want to register more you will need to purchase a Horse Ranch using Contribution Points.
Purchasing a Horse Ranch will increase the stable space for the stable in that specific region only. For example: if you purchase a Horse Ranch in Heidel, it will only increase your horse stable space for Heidel.
- You can use the drop-down menu in the top right to filter by Horse Ranch

Horse Inventory & Equipment
Horses have a small inventory which can be opened by going up to the mount and pressing “F2”. You can right-click items from your inventory such as trash loot or extra potions.
- Mounts have weight limitations just like your character.
- They will move slower and lose stamina faster with items in their inventory.
Horses have 5 equipment slots and 4 costume slots. The equipment slots are for a Bard, Saddle, Stirrups, Champron, and Horseshoe. Horse costumes can only be purchased from the Pearl Store or the central market.
Each piece of horse equipment has different stats:
- Bard – Increases DP
- Saddle – Increases Stamina and Maximum HP
- Stirrups – Allows mounted combat
- Champron – Increases Maximum HP
- Horseshoes – Increases Speed stat
To equip horse armor stand next to the horse and right-click the armor. You can also choose to hide the armor while it is equipped so you have the stats without the appearance.
- To do this, mount the horse and press “P” to open the horse’s stats.
- Next, click the green button on the horse’s equipment slots to hide/show the armor.
All horse armor can also be enhanced to increase stats.
The best horse gear in the game is the Krogdalo Horse set, which can be crafted or bought from the Central Market.
Horse HP and Stamina
When the horse is running and/or using skills, it will use stamina. Horses also take fall damage and can be attacked by nearby monsters.
To restore the horse’s health or stamina you will need to feed it Carrots or use the “Recover” option at a Stable Keeper.
I recommend buying x50 Special Carrots from the Central Market to get you started. All carrots have a cooldown of 5 minutes.

How to Revive your Horse
If your horse has died, you can recover it by going to a Stable Keeper.
You can also revive the horse on the spot using an item called Tears of the Wind, which can be bought from the Loyalty Store (F3).
Don’t worry too much about Horse Deaths. In the past, horse deaths used to affect breeding chances, but this was changed a very long time ago and now there is no punishment other than your own guilt for killing your companion! 🙁
Horse Skills, Levels, & Tiers
Horse Tiers
Horses are categorized by different Horse Tiers which will affect their appearance, skills, and stats. Certain horse skills are locked to certain horse tiers.
The horse tier is shown by the number before the text in the top right corner of the horse icon in the stable.
For example: in the image below, the horse tier is 6.
There are 10 horse tiers in total:
- Tier 1 – 5 is no longer available
- Tier 6 – Tier 8 (Normal Horses)
- Tier 9 (Dream Horses)
- Tier 10 (Mythical Horses)
Horse Levels
When a horse levels, it’s stats are increased and it has a chance of learning a new skill.
- Tier 6 – 7 horses can only level up to 30.
- Tier 8, Tier 9 and Tier 10 horses can level up to 100.
- However, there is no stat or skill benefit to leveling 31 or higher, the level increase is to stop horses from being able to aggro monsters in low level monster zones.
Horse Skills
Horse skills are different for each horse and are selected from random when you obtain a horse.
Each time the horse levels they have a chance of learning a new skill. The higher the tier and the higher your training level is, the more chance the horse will learn a new skill.
You can also change your horse’s skills using a “Mount Skill Change Coupon” which can be bought from the Pearl Store.
Below is a list of all of Tier 1 – 8 Horse skills:
Horse Skill Mini-game
- After you’ve learned certain horse skills, a mini-game may appear randomly when you use the skills. Completing the mini-games will increase your proficiency with the skill.
- To complete the mini-game, you must press [W] and [S] to keep the bar balanced correctly. If you fail, you will be launched off your horse.
- When you successfully complete the mini-game, you earn greater proficiency with that skill.
- When you have acquired 100% proficiency with the skill, the mini-game will no longer appear.
How to get a fast horse (Drift + Instant Accel)
You only actually need 2 skills on a horse to have a fast horse in BDO.
Drift | Press [S] + [A/D] while the horse is running | |
Instant Accel | Press [F] while the horse is running for a temporary speed boost |
The “Drift” skill resets the cooldown of “Instant Accel”, meaning you can combo them to make the horse much faster.
- First, you will want to set a keybind for Evasions (WW) in your Settings > Action Hotkeys.
- Setting a hotkey to this makes it much easier to use the drift combo because you don’t have to press [W] after drifting and use fewer key inputs.
- Now you can hold the button you assigned and then drift by pressing [A/D] + [S] and press [F] to cancel the drift and get a burst of speed.
- Wait until the horse slows down again to use the combo and repeat.
You can also use the combo without changing your keybinds but this involves pressing [A/D] + [S] and then [W] + [F] together, which means your middle finger has to move between [W] and [S] each time, so it’s good to get into the habit of using the keybind method instead.
BDO Streamer and Partner “Im Choice” explains and demonstrates it perfectly in this video:
Courser Horses
If a horse learns certain skills they are known as a “courser” horse. This is indicated by a gold icon next to the horse details, normal horses are marked with a silver icon.
- Courser horses have a 20% increase when it comes to: breeding, breeding market price, horse market price, imperial delivery price.
- In addition, if you breed using two Courser horses, the offspring is guaranteed to be born with 2 skills (normal horses are born with 1).
- If you breed a Courser horse and normal horse, there is a chance of the offspring being born with 1 or 2 skills.
Horse Tier | Skills required |
---|---|
6 | Charge, Drift, Sprint |
7 | Charge, Drift, Sprint, Instant Acceleration, Side Step |
8 | Charge, Drift, Sprint, Instant Acceleration, Side Step, S: Instant Acceleration, S: Side Step |
Tier 8 “Courser” horses can carry out training once they reach level 30 and are capable of awakening to become a Tier 9 horse.
Learn more about Tier 9 horses here!
Mounted Combat
Mounted combat only becomes available if the horse has stirrups equipped.
Horse Market
The horse market can be accessed by going to a Stable Keeper and pressing the “Horse Market” button.
Here you can view all the horses which are currently being sold by other players and make a purchase.
You can also view the horse market from the world map, but you can only purchase a horse if you are at a Stable Keeper.

All horses sold through the Horse Market are automatically taxed. The tax is unaffected by the Value Pack Marketplace tax, but your horse Training level on your character will give you an increased sale profit.
You can use the Horse Market Tax Calculator Google Sheet to help you work out the value of your horse after tax.
Wagons
- Wagons are used to transport trade packs or more store items, since they have a larger inventory and weight limit than horses.
- You can connect horses to a wagon to level multiple horses at once – however this isn’t always recommended).
- You don’t need to connect horses to a wagon to use the wagon. Basic horses will automatically be used instead.
- Beginner Wagons can be bought from a Stable Keeper, but more advanced wagons must be crafted or bought from the Central Market.
- Its also important to note that most wagons cannot be repaired when they run out of durability, and will have to be replaced.

To connect horses to the Wagon, left-click the wagon and click “Connect Wagon”.
Horse Rental
You can rent horses (up to T8) from other players.
To put your own horse up for rent, go to any Stable Keeper and check the horse into a stable, then select “Rent” from the menu. You must enter the family name of the person you want to rent the horse to.
To rent a horse, go to any Stable Keeper and select the “Rent” option at the bottom. This will open a new window. Select “Rental List” at the top to show all the horses available for rent.
You must pay a fee of 100,000 silver to rent the horse for seven days. The owner can collect this fee by going to the rent window. The owner can also forcefully retrieve their horse in the rent window, if the horse is checked into a stable, or if you are disconnected from the game. Any equipment on the rented horse can be used, but you will not be able to unequip or equip any gear onto the rented horse. Horses will still gain EXP whilst being used by other players.
Mount Transport
Mount Transport can be used to move any mount (including wagons) from one location to another. The transportation will take 10 minutes no matter where you are sending it to and will cost 100,000 silver. Simply go to the stable where the mount is located, then select the mount, and then “transport”. Select the location from the window and confirm the transportation. You cannot cancel the transportation once you have confirmed.

The daily quest is obtained from Erfianso at Atanis Pond (Kamaslyvia).
To begin the daily quests, you will first need to complete a simple quest called “Celestial Horse Calling Horn” which can also be obtained from Erfianso. This quest requires you to hand over 30 Atanis Confection to the Krogdalo’s Trace node manager. These can be obtained by completing the daily quests at Erfianso.
There are 2 versions of the daily quest, and the one you can take depends on your Training level. If you have Artisan 1 or higher, you will obtain double rewards, meaning you will finish the daily quests in half the time.
