Introduction
The Margoria expansion was added to EU/NA in October 2016. The update hugely expanded the map with a new continent appearing in the north west. The continent currently can’t be explored beyond the new town “Port Ratt” but the ocean itself brought lots of new and exciting content such as new sea monsters, epheria sailboat, epheria frigate and the guild galley. Fishing and trading were effected by the new area and I would advise taking a look at this forum post for more information on the new fish species locations. There was also an update to swimming and diving, which introduced underwater gathering and lots of new items.
Whilst in the Margoria Sea, you cannot view your location on the map and you cannot use auto-pathing. There may also be hurricanes and thunderstorms which will make it hard to see where you are going.
Port Ratt is a new town which you can get to by crossing the Margoria Sea. Port Ratt gives you extra trade bonuses and can be connected to Lema Island. Once you have the Port Ratt node connected, you simply need to discover the different areas of the Margoria Sea to connect them as well for fishing.
NPC Ferries have been added which will take you across to Port Ratt. You must first go to the dock at Olvia Coast and catch the ferry to Lema Island, then there is another ferry on the north side of Lema Island which will take you directly to Port Ratt. You can also catch the ferry back to the mainland once you have finished exploring Port Ratt. Be aware that sea monsters can still attack you whilst you are on the ferry.
In this patch guide I will go into detail about the sea monsters and other updates brought this patch. However, for more information on the Epheria Sailboat, Epheria Frigate and Guild Galley, please visit our Ships guide.
Sea Monsters and Hurricanes/Phantom Ships
Sea Monsters
Sea Monsters spawn in certain areas in the Margoria ocean. They will deal damage to you and your ship if you run into one, and can easily destroy smaller boats such as fishing boats. However, they can be killed using cannons from an Epheria Sailboat, Epheria Frigate or Guild Galley. The sea monsters are primarily guild based, and can be hunted as part of a guild quests for a large amount of guild EXP. The items themselves can only be sold for guild silver, but are required to craft the better equipment for Guild Galleys.

Hurricanes and Margoria Phantom Ships
Hurricanes can randomly spawn during a thunderstorm in the Margoria sea. If you are hit by lightning whilst in a hurricane, you will be knocked down and it will deal damage to you. It will also deal damage to your ship.
Margoria Phantom Ships can also spawn as a random encounter when you are using an Epheria Sailboat, Epheria Frigate or Guild Galley. It is believed that they have a higher chance to spawn during hurricanes or storms. Phantom Ships can be a challenge to deal with, especially if you alone. You will be knocked off the wheel of the ship and cannot get back on it until you either destroy the ship using your cannons, or kill the skeletons that board your ship. Phantom Ships can drop gold bars, Shiny Golden Seals and Golden Pearls.
Switching channels will despawn Margoria Phantom Ships, but be aware that Guild Galleys do NOT change channel with you.
Diving and Underwater Gathering
Swimming and Diving
There have been a few changes to swimming and diving for the new underwater gathering. The breath gauge time has been increased from 30 seconds to 60 seconds and you can no longer drown and will instead rise to the surface when the breath gauge is empty. But if you run out of stamina while swimming (5/100 stamina) you will have a movement speed debuff. There are various objects in the water which you can climb onto to regenerate your stamina. You can now interact with NPC/objects whilst swimming or diving as well.
If you are going to venture into the deep, I would advise buying the following in-game items to help you swim for longer (recommended items are in green and alternatives are in black):
- Luck of Fortuna Armor Set – This set is good to use when underwater gathering or swimming because of it’s 3 piece set effect. It will give Movement Speed +3, which will make you move faster in the water. Make sure to get the Luck Shoes of Fortuna so that you can put crystals in them.
- Magic Crystal of Infiity – Underwater Breathing Increase – Make sure you get two of these crystals and place them in your Luck Shoes of Fortuna. The crystals give an extra 15 seconds of underwater breathing each.
- Elixir of Seal / Agile Seal Elixir– This elixir will allow you to breathe underwater for an extra 15 seconds and lasts 8 / 15 minutes, depending on which grade of elixir you use.
- Elixir of Swiftness / Elixir of Intrepid Swiftness – This is good choice if you don’t use the Fortuna Set because movement speed also effects how fast you swim underwater. This elixir gives you Movement Speed +2 / Movement Speed +3 for 5 / 8 minutes, depending on which grade of elixir you use.
- Hard-Boiled Shellfish / Big Hard-Boiled Shellfish – This food is an excellent choice because it gives Gathering Speed +2 and underwater breathing +10 seconds. It lasts 60 / 75 minutes, depending on which grade of food you use.
- Meat Sandwich / High-Quality Meat Sandwich – This is a good choice if you don’t use the Fortuna Set because it has movement speed +1 and max stamina +200 for 90 minutes, depending on which grade of food you use. Stamina allows you to swim for longer.
There are also two costumes which are available from the in-game store:
- Da-Dum Da-Dum Diving Suit Set – This costume will give you an extra 30 seconds of underwater breathing. It will also increase your swimming speed and reduce stamina consumption whilst swimming. The costume can be very convenient but is not required to enjoy the new ocean content.
- Splat Fisher’s Clothes Set – If you are going to invest in one of the costumes specifically for swimming, I would highly recommend going for the Da-Dum Da-Dum Diving Suit Set. However, if you already have this costume or would like the Fishing Level increase instead, then this is a good alternative as well. The costume will increase your swimming speed and reduce stamina consumption when swimming. The costume can be very convenient but is not required to enjoy the new ocean content.
Underwater Gathering
Underwater gathering requires a Hoe gathering tool, which must be equipped before you get in the water. I would recommend using a Magic Hoe, Lucky Shining Steel Hoe or Shining Steel Hoe for the best chances and faster gathering speed. You can also use the Balenos Meal and Worker’s Elixirs to increase your gathering speed.
Underwater gathering can give you some of the items below, as well as a chance of Hard/Sharp Crystal Shards.

Ships and Sailing Lifeskill
Epheria Sailboat
The Epheria Sailboat is faster than the fishing boat and is also equipped with 1 cannon on each side. You use Cannon Ball for Ship to use the cannons on the ship. They also have equipment which can be bought or crafted to increase the ship stats.
Ship stats:
Weight Limit: 5,000 LT
Durability (HP): 1,000,000
Lifespan (Stamina/Power): 1,000,001
Cargo Load: 25
Acceleration: 100%
Speed: 100%
Turn: 100%
Brake: 100%
Unlike the other ships, the sailboat is repairable and it also has the “Power” stat which is used to use ship skills. You can also use your workers on the ship for extra stats.
The sailboat requires a lot of materials to build and can only be built in Epheria at the level 3 Shipyard > 2nd Floor, No. 3-5, Epheria. It will take at least 15 days to gather the materials and you should use as many goblin workers as you can to process the materials quickly.
For more information on the Epheria Sailboat and how to craft it, view our ships guide.
Epheria Frigate
The Epheria Frigate is faster than the fishing boat and is also equipped with 2 cannons on each side. You use Cannon Ball for Ship to use the cannons on the ship. They also have equipment which can be bought or crafted to increase the ship stats.
Ship stats:
Weight Limit: 4,000 LT
Durability (HP): 1,000,000
Lifespan (Stamina/Power): 1,000,001

Guild Galley
The Galley is a guild ship which can be used by officers or the guild master. Galleys have 4 cannons on each side and can only be built at certain guild housing or by completing the quest [Guild] I have a Dream. You use [Guild] Cannon Ball for Ship to use the cannons on the ship, these are sold at a guild Wharf NPC. They also have equipment which can be bought or crafted to increase the ship stats.
Ship stats:
Weight Limit: 4,000 LT
Durability (HP): 1,000,000
Lifespan (Stamina/Power): 1,000,001

To promote the workers, you will need 1000 Amity with Philaberto Falasi in Epheria. This will unlock the Boatman Promotion quests which you must complete to gain the skilled contracts, increasing the worker stats to +2%.
Sailing Lifeskill
The sailing lifeskill can be leveled by sailing an Epheria Sailboat, Epheria Frigate or Guild Galley through the Margoria Sea, Vadabin Sea or Juur Sea. Currently the fastest way to level your sailing lifeskill is by completing the daily quest from Sihuram at Port Ratt. You must deliver a quest item to either Velia, Epheria, Ancado or Altinova depending on which of the daily quest you decide to do. You can only do one of them and I would advise on taking the Ancado quest because it gives the most EXP due to the distance you are travelling. I would advise on sailing to Epheria then getting on your horse to travel the rest of the way. The daily quest does not require you to use or have one of the Margoria ships and you can take the ferry instead.
There are also Silver Embroidered Sailor’s Clothes which will give you higher sailing EXP and can be enhanced for a higher EXP gain. You can also use food such as Sute Tea to gain more life EXP while sailing.
You will need a certain level of sailing skill to use special skills on your sailboat. Skills also use up your ships power stat.
Sailing Skill | Skill Name | What it does | How to use it |
---|---|---|---|
Beginner 1 | Ram | Travels forwards for 5 seconds and rams into targets to damage them. Stops the ship for 2 seconds afterwards. | Q |

Vell – Ocean World Boss
Vell, the Heart of the Ocean, is a massive ocean world boss which is coming soon. You can see in the image below how it’s size compares to a ship. The monster will spawn in the northern sea around Lema Island and will take the Margoria ships (Epheria Frigates and Guild Galleys) to defeat.
You must make parties with other players and use your cannons and matchlocks to kill him. Vell will drop an item called the “Heart of Vell” which is the highest-grade Alchemy Stone. It has a stat of 3 AP which is added to your total gear score, as well as the following effects when in use: All AP +8, All Accuracy +10, Ignores All Resistance +5%, Attack Speed +5% and Casting Speed +5%. To fuel the Alchemy Stone, you require Crystal Powder of Vell or Mysterious Spiritual, which are believed to also drop from the boss.
