Introduction
Workers in Black Desert Online are used to collect resources for you so you don’t have to spend your own energy and time gathering them. You can send your workers to collect many different types of materials, such as ores, logs, traces, fruit, vegetables, etc. Workers can also craft items at your purchased property, such as a workshop, refinery, or shipyard.
- Clicking the Worker Icon will open the Worker List window.
- You can also open the Worker List by going to the ESC Menu > Life > Worker List
- Here you can find all your information about your hired workers
How to Hire Workers
Every main city has a Worker NPC where you can go to hire new workers. You can find the closest Worker Supervisor NPC using the Find NPC function.
- ESC Menu > Function > Find NPC
- Or press the magnifying glass icon located next to your mini-map in the top left corner of your screen.
Once you arrive at the Work Supervisor, use the “Contract Workers” option to search for workers.
- It will cost 5 energy to view a random worker.
- You will be able to see the worker grade and stats.
- If you don’t like the worker you get, you can spend an additional 5 energy to view another one, by clicking on “View Another”.
- You can also use the “View Continiously” option to filter workers by grade, and set how many times you want to search. This will automatically cycle through workers until it finds the grade you select. You can stop the serach manually by pressing ESC.
- Click the “Hire Worker” button to purchase the worker.
Firing Workers
- If you want to remove a worker from your worker list, you can fire them to delete the worker and free up a lodging space.
- The worker must not be working, so you will need to cancel any jobs they are currently performing.
- Firing Workers is irreversable.
Worker Exchange
At the Worker Supervisor NPC, you can view the worker exchange, where you can buy and sell workers to/from other players.
- You can see all of the information about the worker, such as their level, location, grade, type, stats, skills, available promotions, and price.
- You must have enough lodging at the location to buy them.
- The price is automatically set and is dependent on the level, grade, and skills of the worker.
- You can register your own workers by clicking the “register” button but you can only register workers in that particular city/town and the worker must have full stamina.
Example of Worker Exchange sales standard price | |
---|---|
Skilled Worker Lv. 1 | 100,000 Silver |
Professional Worker Lv. 1 | 1,000,000 Silver |
Artisan Worker Lv. 1 | 5,000,000 Silver |
Skilled Worker Lv. 40 | 2,000,000 Silver |
Professional Worker Lv. 40 | 20,000,000 Silver |
Artisan Worker Lv. 40 | 100,000,000 Silver |
Worker Lodging
- Each town can have 1 worker by default.
- If you would like more than 1 worker, you will need lodging in the town to hire more.
- To get lodging you need to purchase a “lodging” property using your CP (Contribution Points).
To quickly find lodging properties at a particular town, use the filter located in the top right when you are viewing the housing in a town.
Using your Workers
Sending Workers to a Node
Before you can tell your worker to star gathering materials, you need to make sure the nodes are connected and invested in between the Worker location and the node you would like the worker to gather from.
- For example: If you would like your Velia worker to gather materials from the Ehwaz Hill Node in Balenos, you would need to connect Vela > Finto Farm > Ehwaz Hill > Ehwaz Hill Subnode.
Once the node AND the subnode are invested in, you can tell a worker to start gathering the materials at the node. If you are unsure how to connect nodes, you can use our Nodes Guide for more information. The information about what items can be gathered at the node is shown by hovering over the node icon. You can also check our Interactive BDO Node Map to search for certain items and plan your Worker Empire.
- Click on the subnode icon to open the worker information, then select which worker you would like to send to the node.
- After selecting a worker, make sure to click the “Change” button. This is where you can set how many times you want the worker to work on the node before stopping. Always make sure to put this to the maximum amount so that the worker will repeat the action, then click “Start Work”.
- Only one worker can be sent to each node.
- Every time your worker finishes their job, they will travel back to the original location and place the gathered materials straight into your storage.
- Make sure to have enough space in your storage for your new items.
- If you log out and your worker is still working, it will continue to work on its current job but it will not continue with the next.
To ensure that your workers never stop their action, you can also use the “Repeat All” button to make them repeat their current job.
- Eg. If the worker is set to gather from a node 50,000 times, and has completed 10 job cycles, it will now have 49,990 jobs left. You can use the Repeat button to reset it back to 50,000 jobs.
As well as the node materials, you also have a chance of obtaining extra items when your workers complete a job. The chance of obtaining these extra materials is increased with a higher Worker Luck stat.

Crafting items using Workers
- From here, click the “Manage Crafting” button to open the crafting options.
- You can select the item you would like to craft and view the materials needed to craft it.
- The materials must be in storage in the same town/city that the worker is from.
- For example, if I am using a worker from Heidel, I must put the Rough Stone in my Heidel storage.
- You can then set how many you would like to craft by pressing the “Change” button, and then finally click “Start Work” when you are ready.
- At the end of the work time, the crafted item will go into your storage.
You can also use the “Complete Now” button to finish crafting an item early. This consumes a certain amount of silver depending on the time left for the task.

Canceling Tasks
- You may want to cancel the workers task to reassign them, and/or uninvest in the node.
- If you would like to cancel the current job for your worker, you can use the [X] button on the worker in the Worker List.
- The task will immediately be canceled.
- Any materials that were consumed to begin crafting an item will not be restored.
How to Feed Workers
- Each time a worker completes a job, they use up 1 stamina. The max amount of stamina the worker has is equal to their stamina stat.
- When a worker runs out of stamina, they will stop after completing their current job.
- The Worker icon will also glow red to tell you that a worker has run out of stamina.
- To regain the worker’s stamina, you need to feed them specific items.
- You can buy these items in the Consumables > Food section in the Central Market or you can craft them yourself using a Cooking Utensil (Cooking Lifeskill).
It is recommended to use Grilled Bird Meat where possible because of the low price and efficeincy due to how much stamina it recovers.

- After feeding your workers, you should always click “Repeat all” to make sure your workers continue their last assigned job.
Worker Grade and Stats
Workers are split into 5 different “grades” to represent their skill level.
- Naive workers > General workers > Skilled workers > Professional workers > Artisan workers
The higher grade the worker is, the better stats they will have. There are 4 different stats that all workers have:
Stat | Explanation |
---|---|
Work Speed | Used to calculate the time it takes to complete a task. A higher work speed means the job will be completed faster. |
Move Speed | Used to calculate the time it takes to travel to and from the node/workshop. Higher Move speed means the job will be completed faster. |
Stamina | How many jobs your worker can complete before he needs to be fed |
Luck | Higher luck increases the chance of obtaining rare or extra items (such as “Some Farmer’s Sack” while collecting materials at a node. |
Types of Workers
There are different classes of workers that have different strengths and weaknesses.
Goblins/Papu/Dwarf/Dokkaebi
- These workers have low stamina but a high work speed, which makes them great if you want the job done quickly.
Giants/Fadus/Shellfolk
- These are the opposite with low/mid work speed and high stamina.
- They also have a unique talent trait “Production Increase”, allowing them to obtain an additional 68.4% of the basic harvest amount when harvesting at production nodes
Humans/Dolswe
- These workers are the middle ground between the others with mid work speed and stamina, but they also have the highest luck stat.

Levels and Promotion Test
- Each time your worker completes a job (work cycle), they earn EXP.
- The worker’s current EXP % can be seen by hovering over the worker in your Worker List window.
- When the worker levels up, their Workspeed, Movement Speed, and Luck stats can increase.
- Every 5 levels, the worker can also gain a new skill at random.
- The maximum level for workers is level 40.
- At levels 10, 20, 30, and 40, a worker gains the chance to complete a promotion test.
- If the worker fails the promotion test, nothing happens, but if they are successful, they will move up to the next grade.
- For example, a Skilled Goblin Worker will go up to a Professional Goblin Worker.
- When the worker moves up to the next grade, they go back to level 1 and lose all of the current skills they have, so it is best to try and promote a worker as soon as possible. The worker also has their promotion tests reset so that they can be upgraded again.
Promotion Test | Chance of Success |
---|---|
General → Skilled | 90% |
Skilled → Professional | 70% |
Professional → Artisan | 50% |
To begin, open the worker window and then click the “Promotion Information” tab at the top. You can now see all the workers who can be promoted and the number of promotion attempts they have left. Click the “Promote” button to send that worker for their promotion test.
- The worker will have to sit an exam for 8 hours and will not be able to do anything else.
- You can only promote one worker at a time.
Worker Skills
- Skills can be earned as the worker levels up and each worker can have up to 10 skills in total.
- Skills can be seen when you hover your cursor over your workers in the list. There you can see the obtainable and learned skills your worker has.
- The worker will start with a random skill and then receive another skill at random every 5 levels.
No. | Worker Level |
---|---|
1 Skill | Level 1 |
2 Skills | Level 5 |
3 Skills | Level 10 |
4 Skills | Level 15 |
5 Skills | Level 20 |
6 Skills | Level 25 |
7 Skills | Level 30 |
8 Skills | Level 35 |
9 Skills | Level 40 |
10 Skills | Level 40 (Delivery Skill) |
- At level 40, all workers automatically learn the “Delivery” Skill.
- The Delivery Skill allows you to select a location you would like gathered materials to be automatically sent to when your worker completes a job.
- This feature allows you to organize your storages better.
Rerolling Worker Skills
- When a worker reaches at least level 30 and has 20% EXP or higher, you can reroll one of their skills.
- The worker must have full stamina and must not be working.
- You then go to the worker window and press the skill change button.
- Now you can select the skill you would like to change and click the confirm button. This will give you a new random skill and reduce the worker’s current EXP by 20%.

Calculating Work Time (Advanced)
Each task has a set Workload which is used along with the work speed to calculate how long it will take them to complete the task.
- For example, the workload of this Chicken Meat production node is 400.00.
We can then use the Work Speed stat to calculate how long it will take to do a single job cycle. The time taken is also shown to you (in this example you can see it will take 41 minutes and 39 seconds).
Named Workers
- Named Workers are NPCs that you can hire.
- However, you must earn 500 amity with the NPC beforehand to be able to hire them using a special contract that costs 500,000 silver.
- If you are unsure of how to earn amity with an NPC, check out our Amity & Conversation guide.
- Named Workers are Professional Grade and have an extra skill (up to 11 total)
- Named Workers cannot be promoted to Artisan and are bound to the node that is listed in their contract.
- You can have multiple of the same worker if you repeat the mini-game with the NPC.
Below is a list of all the possible Named Workers you can hire.
Blue stats are highlighted to show the best possible worker for that particular stat.

Found on Reddit regarding Altinova workers:
[–]Zorlak 1 point 20 days ago
There are a few, but amity with them is a real pain in the ass. The ones I can recall are;
Jamure, a goblin at Kasula Farm – Tarif
Savarin, a goblin at Stonetail Horse Ranch – Altinova
Kudran, a human at Shuri Farm – Altinova
Bohamuti, a giant at Ahto Farm – Tarif
Sakun, a giant at Omar Lava Cave – Altinova
@fogg Thank you for the heads up. I’ve added the extra workers as well as the ones for Valencia. Then I’ll go around later today and collect the stats for them 🙂
Workers use only beer to recover, nothing else. Oathmeal and fish fillet is for yourself. Beer can be easily produced at your home. Some quests will also give you the option of getting a free beer. And yes, if you have not the intention to craft it yourself you can buy it at the marketplace.
As for promoting; i would like to know if there are any conditions to get a guaranteed promotion or is this completely RNG? I tried to promote a green giant worker in Velia, but it failed after those 24 hours. And it seems you can only promote one time.
By the way; since the Mediah update there is an extra option now at the person where you can hire workers. You can now register workers and it seems you can exchange them.
