Introduction
Gathering is one of the most profitable life skills after the Life Skill Mastery update and players can gain high silver per hour once they reach high mastery and level. But it is an active life skill that can take up a lot of time. It is very easy for anyone to get started though and you can start making instant money. Gathering requires you to spend Energy though, which is a limited resource. You can recover 1 energy every 3 minutes, and can only improve this rate by popping certain buffs or sleeping in a bed.
To get started you will also need to equip a gathering tool depending on the type of material you are going to gather. More information can be found below. Each time you gather, the durability of the tool will decrease and eventually break once they hit 0.
Gathering tools cannot be repaired (apart from the mastery tools).
Gathering Tools | ||
---|---|---|
Axe | used on any trees to gather logs, timber, planks, old tree bark, bloody tree knot, etc. | |
Hoe | used on wild plants to gather herbs, fruits, weeds, seeds, flowers, mushrooms, etc. can also be used to gather underwater plants you can also gather wild plants (land only) without needing a hoe but you are likely to only get weeds |
|
Tanning Knife | used on certain dead animals to gather hides, fur, feathers, and plumes (eg. kuku bird, deer hide, rhino hide) | |
Butcher Knife | used on certain dead animals to gather meat (eg. pork, fox, wolf, bear) can also be used with the hunting lifeskill on certain monsters to get blood and hide |
|
Fluid Collector | used on certain dead animals to gather blood or used on any tree to gather tree sap | |
Pickaxe | used on rocks to gather ores, gemstones, and crystals |
Other items are also used to gather some materials. These work differently from other gathering tools and can only be obtained from a material vendor. You must go to a specific place and then right-click the item in your inventory to begin gathering. Each gather requires x1 of the item so if you want to gather lots of water, you will need multiple empty bottles.
Empty Bottle | used whilst standing in water (eg. river, sea) to gather water requires Empty Bottle x1 per gather |
|
Shabby Shovel | used in the desert in Valencia (map must be hidden) to dig up muddy water, ores, crystals, etc. requires x1 per gather |
Gathering Tools
Beginner gathering tools can be bought from any materials vendor.
- The best choice for Gathering Tools is a Magic Tool until you reach over 650 Gathering Mastery, and then you will benefit from the Mastery Tools more.
- This is because Magic Tools have an Increase extra acquisition rate of +80% that does not stack with gathering mastery. Once you reach over 650 gathering mastery you will get an 85.7% increase, as well as other benefits. Until then it is lower than using a Magic Tool.
Magic Tools have high durability (250) and also the fastest gathering speed (-11 second gathering time), as well as an increased chance of getting rare drops when using them.
You can usually get most Magic Tools from the central market and they are given out through event boxes as well.
If Magic Tools are unavailable, you can also get them by exchanging certain Imperial Seals or crafting them at a level 3 Tool Workshop
Magic Tool | Shiny Golden Seal | Crafting Recipe (Level 3 Tool Workshop) |

Magic Fluid Collector | Shiny Golden Seal – [Imperial Fishing] x10 | Steel x2, Iron Ingot x10, Black Stone Powder x5 |
Gathering Tool Durability Reduction
You can use buffs to reduce the rate that your gathering tool durability decreases. This means that you won’t always lose -1 durability when you gather and you don’t have to repair your mastery tools as often or replace the other tools which can’t be repaired. It’s more for your convenience and not too important.
- Pearl Store Weapon Costume Piece
- Using any weapon costume piece from the pearl store gives a +10% durability reduction
- Can stack with the mainhand weapon costume piece
- Pearl Stone Awakening Weapon Costume Piece
- Using any awakening weapon costume piece from the pearl store gives a +10% durability reduction
- Can stack with the mainhand weapon costume piece
- Costume 8 set bonus
- Equipping a total of 8 costume pieces (a full premium set) gives +10% durability reduction
- Treant costume (which gives Gathering level +1) does not have the 8-set bonus
- Pets
- Pets can have durability reduction skills which can stack up to +20%
- Brand Stone
- You can use a Brand Stone (bought from the pearl store) on your mastery gathering tools to add +50% durability reduction to them
Gathering Gear/Buffs
You should aim to get gathering level 5 to increase your gathering speed. This can be done a number of ways but should be fairly easy.
- Most people can get between level +1 to +3 from their passive guild buff. You can then use a Balenos Meal for an additional +2, or use an Alchemy Stone/Life Spirit Stone for +2.
- Ideally, you will then want to use Fig Pie for the increased Gathering Item Drop Rate and Life Mastery clothing and accessories to increase your drops as much as possible.
Here is an excellent gear roadmap made by DMUK on the Lifeskill discord. This shows what you should aim for to improve your Gathering Mastery.
Agris Fever
You can use Agris Fever when gathering to consume Agris Fever points in exchange for extra materials.
eg. After completing up to the Book of Margahan Vol. 1 Chapter 5, you will benefit from an Item Drop Amount +150% boost when Agris Fever is toggled on. If you attempt to gather Lion Meat, the following effects can be applied.
1. Basic gathered amount: 2 to 4
2. With Agris Fever effects applied (Item Drop Amount +150%): 5 to 10
3. With at least 2,000 Gathering Mastery (Basic Resources Quantity +400%): 10 to 20
4. With at least 2,000 Gathering Mastery (Basic Resources Quantity +400%) and Agris Fever effects applied (Item Drop Amount +150%): 13 to 26
Life Skill Tool (Gatherable Resource) | Agris Fever Consumed | |
Pickaxe (Ores and Rough Metals) | 42 points | |
Fluid Collector (Bloods and Sap) | 34 points (blood) 30 points (sap) |
|
Butcher Knife (Meats) | 34 points | |
Hoe (Herbs, Flowers, Mushrooms, etc.) | 22 points | |

Hedgehog Pet
Unlike other pets, the Hedgehog can only be obtained through certain events and promotions.
The Hedgehog pet has a unique buff which will give an increased proc rate once they reach level 10. This means that every time you gather, you have a chance of getting extra materials.
- Tier 1 – Tier 2: 30% proc chance
- Tier 3: 40% proc chance
- Tier 4: 50% proc chance
Having multiple hedgehogs do not make the buff stack. Hedgehog procs do not scale with gathering mastery either and then Golden Hedgehog is simply a reskin which doesn’t stack with the regular Hedgehog pet or has extra benefits.
Energy Regen Buffs
Since gathering is limited by your energy, it’s important to use certain buffs to increase your energy regen so you can gather more. Having a higher Gathering life skill level also reduces the rate that you use energy. So if you are an Artisan for example, each time you gather you have a chance of not using energy and will be able to gather for longer than if you were only at the Apprentice level.
Below is a list of all buffs which give energy or energy regen:
Gathering Drops
When gathering, there are different items you can get as well as just the basic material:
- Basic Resources: Wild Herbs, Hide, Meat, Logs, Timber, Sap, Ore, Blood, etc.
- Special Resources: Old Tree Bark, Laila’s Petal, Deep Blue Hoof root, Fairy Powder, etc.
- Rare Resources: Ancient Spirit Dust, Black Gem Fragments, etc
- Very Rare Resources: Caphras Stones, Sharp Black Crystal Shards, Black Gems, Mass of Pure Magic
The fever time buff also increases your chances of gaining Sharp Black Crystal shards. Click here for details.
Gathering certain basic resources have a higher or lower rate for EXP, Black Gem Fragments, and Ancient Spirit Dust/Caphras.
Fairy’s Breath
- Fairy Breath can drop when Lumbering, Skinning, Fluid Collecting, Gathering using a Hoe, Mining, Water Scooping, or Butchering.
You can exchange with Fairy’s Breath x10 for one of the following items from Dalishain in Town:- Sharp Black Crystal Shard x1
- Hard Black Crystal Shard x2
- 900 Contribution EXP + 30 Gathering EXP
Buried Trace
There is also a low chance to find a Buried Trace when Lumbering, Tanning, Fluid Collecting, Gathering with a Hoe, Mining, or Butchering.
- A “Mystery Box” will appear when mining near the found trace.
- The box can only be opened with a gold key.
The following items can be obtained when opening the box

Gathering Mastery
I recommend checking out our Life Skill Mastery guide for all the details about mastery gear, how to obtain them, enhance them, and exactly how much mastery each one gives.
Higher Gathering Mastery increases the number of basic materials you get when gathering, as well as the chance of gathering special and rare materials.
- Basic Resources: drop amount increase up to +400%, chance to obtain up to 80%
- Special Resources: drop amount increase up to +100%, chance to obtain up to 200%
- Rare Resources: drop amount increase up to +85%, , chance to obtain up to 250%
- Very Rare Resources: drop amount increase up to +44.42%, chance to obtain up to 133.25%
- 0% to +30% chance of not consuming Energy per gather (reduced from +60% chance at Master 1 Gathering Life Skill)
You will need a Gathering Tool for the type of gathering you are doing. For example, if you are gathering wood, you will need a Mastery Lumbering Axe equipped in your life skill tool slot to make use of the Gathering Mastery buff.
- The Gathering Chance increase buff from Magic/Lucky Gathering tools does not stack with your Gathering Mastery
- If you have a Magic/Lucky Gathering Tool equipped, the buff from the gathering tools will be applied only
- You should use a Magic Tool until you are over 650 mastery. Magic Tools have an increased extra acquisition rate of +80%

Cows can only be found in 4 locations:
- Oliva: Wale Farm
- Calphoen: Falres Farm
- Calpheon: Bain Farm
- Dreighan: Duvencrune Farmland
To complete the mini-game you must press LMB and RMB alternatively to fill up the bar to 100%. You can fail the mini-game if you do it too quickly. If you fail the mini-game it will only cost you 4 energy, if you are successful it will cost you 10 energy. It takes an average of 16 seconds each time.
Your gathering level affects the amount of milk you get but gathering buffs, gear, and mastery do not have any effect.
- Beginner 2: average 25 milk per mini-game
- Professional 2: average 35 milk per mini-game
- Master 2: average 45 milk per mini-game
Perfect, thank you for this one!
